Celebrity deaths generate a ton of media attention. The bigger the celebrity the more attention. It's only natural. We're talking about it here on hammradio. When the news occured, the news traveled fast. Is it the train wreck fascination? Digital Rubbernecking?

I don't know if I'm smart enough to answer that question. But Anna Nicole Smith's bizarre life has turned into an even more bizarre death. Initial autopsy reports haven't concluded cause of death. And it could be weeks before we know what actually happened. Seems quicker on CSI doesn't it? And so the news cycle will continue.

The news cycle will follow the paternity tests of the daughter that she leaves behind. Is it her Husband/Lawyer Howard K. Stern? Is it the guy who's suing her. Is it Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband? Yes, I just said Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband. Zsa Zsa's Husband?

And the extended news cycle will extend the snarky gossip columns. And the message boards with rude comments. I even have to catch myself trying to be sympathetic. She's not a sympathetic character. She's had a lot of drama in her life. And her problems were detailed in the tabloids and in her reality show, which is the place where we got to know her the best I guess. She was a mess. Whether she had reason to or not is up for debate. But her young death was not surprising. Certainly not for some of the folks who participate in this celebrity deadpool.

And if anyone ever questions Anna Nicole's celebrity, when you are parodied by Saturday Night Live, well you are big time. Tonight I was watching a rerun of SNL (Matt Damon host) and in the opening skit Dick Cheney references watching Anna Nicole and later in the episode, Robert Smigel's hilarious cartoon of Smurfette in the form of Anna Nicole Smith was featured. Ironic? The episode aired Wednesday at 2am. Just the day before her death.

Any death is tragic. But the true tragedy is the poor baby who is now without a mother, has questiosn about her father, and has no step brother to protect her. But somehow I think we will forget all about her.
