Story Summary
The Eagles shut down the Panthers in a rematch of last years NFC title game. While the offense didn't play as well as previous weeks, the Defense shined.

Defense Shines; Lito 2 Interceptions
Birds Roll to 5th Win in a Row
"This Offense is HORRIBLE. We can't run. We can't pass. It's awful." That's what my buddy Wayne called to tell me as the Eagles were winning 23-0. This was just before Carolina scored their first points with 2:48 left in the game. The offense at that point had scored 16 points. But that was not enough. What if we were playing the Colts or the Patriots. This is what happens to Philly fans after losing 3 NFC Championship games. We need to blow out teams, not because we are arrogant, but we can't have ANY doubts whatsover about this team. For the fans to continue to ride the wave towards the Super Bowl, we have to believe in this team. It's that simple. And we need to have Donovan throwing 3 touchdowns a game to T.O. and Brian Westbrook adding another 2 TDs. That's what we've become.

HOAGIES -- Stars of the Game
- CB - Lito Sheppard-- 2 interceptions and 3 passes defensed. A heck of a game. His interception return was pure talent mixed with smarts as he waited for blocks to develop. An INT to remember.
- WR - Terrell Owens-- 4 catches for 123 yards. Nothing in the second half, because he didn't have to.
- FS - Brian Dawkins-- Even though he was defending K.Colbert on the Panthers lone touchdown, BDawk set the tone early with some massive hits and excellent coverage. He finished the game with 5 tackles (4 solo), a sack for -9 yards and 2 passes defensed.
KRIMPETS -- Soft players of the Game.
- RB - Josh Parry -- Dropped 2 passes, one that was going to be for a big gain and a first down. Also had a holding penalty that negated a huge gain for Westbrook. He did shine blocking during Westbrook's touchdown run in the 4th Quarter. But he probably proved we needed Jon Ritchie more than we thought.
- WR - Freddie Mitchell -- Only had one pass thrown his way that he couldn't come up with. He did pick up the Panthers onside kick. But otherwise First Down freddie was non-existant..
- WR - Todd Pinkston -- 3 catches for 22 yards, were certainly better than his zero catch performance in the championship game. But really he was a non-factor. Perhaps it's time to move Greg Lewis up? And question, why didn't we trade for Jerry Rice?
Keep an Eye on'em:
DB/KR - J.R. Reed-- The problem with shutting a team out for almost 4 quarters? No chances at Kickoff Returns. Reed has proven his Kick Off Return threat with a 66 yarder, that got more attention for the penalty assesed to the Head of Security for the Eagles. This guy is going to continue to put the Birds in excellent field position.
Numerology-- Key Stats
- Delhomme's 4 interceptions told the tale of the menacing defense.
- Somehow the Eagles' offense scored 23 points while holding the ball for 21:30. With that much time on the field, it was very likely the Eagles would score on defense.
- The Eagles were penalized only 4 times for 38 yards and one of those penalties came from the bench. It's nice to see that cleaned up..
Cheesesteaks -- Key Plays
- Josh Parry dropping 2 consecutive passes, one which forced the Eagles to kick a Field with 4:24 left in the first half leading only 13-0. The Eagles could have used a TD there to send the Panthers on their heels.
- Jevon Kearse had a nice day getting pressure on Delhomme, but he also made his presence felt in the secondary as he was credited with a pass defensed in the endzone, that he almost pulled in for an interception. An athletic play that defines his status as the FREAK.
Wooder Ice -- Licks of the Game
- Brian Dawkins The guy was putting licks on Panthers receivers ALL Day long.
- Jevon Kearse laid a hit on Jake Delhomme that rattled the young QB. Delhomme went on to throw 4 interceptions under pressure from the Eagles front four. BTW, some have questioned Kearse's hit legality. It was NOT illegal. He hit his shoulder pads, the force of which snapped Delhomme's head to touch his helmet to Kearse's. If they are going to fine Kearse for that, Defensive Lineman will be very poor.
