The Thome Bet

Last year, I bet my buddy Wayne that Bobby Abreu would finish above .300. This bet was made in April when Bobby was batting around the Mendoza line. The bet was for a dinner at the COntinental. I won. Wayne never paid up. So we are at double or nothing. This time, the bet is whether Jim Thome will hit 25 or more homers. We'll be tracking this one every couple of days.

Its about preserving individual liberty. Not protecting GroupThink. Justice Sandra Day O'Connor says "It is true that many Americans find the Commandments in accord with their personal beliefs. But we do not count heads before enforcing the First Amendment." Beautiful. The most logical statement ever.

Here's another: In his magnificent dissent in Zorach, written "[a]s one whose children, as a matter of free choice, have been sent to privately supported Church schools," Justice Jackson insisted that the opposition to release time for religious children in New York's public schools was not "anti-religious, atheistic, or agnostic." And he added: "My evangelistic brethren confuse an objection to compulsion with an objection to religion. It is possible to hold a faith with enough confidence to believe that what should be rendered to God does not need to be decided and collected by Caesar."

  • Abreu makes it to the top of the list
Abreu might be in a slump, along with the rest of the Phils. But he's an All-Star starter.

Just another NBA Draft Diary. This is some good stuff.
