Phils Sweep, Baseball Town Lives

It's 3am and I'm watching the replay of the final game of the series with the Mets. Alfonseca just gave up a run scoring hit to Marlon Anderson. It's 8-6 and Jose Reyes is about to be walked. I was in a meeting at work while this occured. So I didn't freak out like those on Beerleaguer.

Today, might have been one of the greatest games in Phillies history. This sweep, might have been the greatest 4 game regular season stretch ever. The Phillies are 2 games back of the Mets for the NL East lead. They are 2 games behind the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card. If only they could have Saturday night back?

The game is slipping away right now on the replay. But right now it's like watching a movie that you know the ending. It's like watching Tommy get killed in Shawshank for the 100th time. You know the Warden is going to get it in the end. You know Andy will see the Pacific. And Red will see his friend.

That's kind of how I feel right now. I can't wait to see the Pacific... and to see my friend Phillies Red.

And like the redemption of Andy Dufresne, Philadelphia has become a baseball town once again. Werth, Burrell, Rollins, Iguchi, Howard, and Utley. Philadelphia is chanting your name. That's why baseball is better than any sport. You could stay in the prison for life, become institutionalized. You see Alfonseca give up the lead and you boo unmercifully. you tell the parole board, you don't know if you have been rehabilitated.

And all you need is a couple of second baseman and a couple of theives to give you your redemption. Phils win 11-10. And a Baseball Town has resurrected.
