2004 Week 2: Phillies Weekly

Editors Note: Each Sunday Night Inside the Dugout will give you the wrap-up on this week's baseball season.

What a difference a week makes. Coming home helped a whole lot as well. Although the team lost their home opener, they rebounded with solid pitching and clutch hitting to win 4 and a row. The record for the week was 4 and 1. They are 2.5 games behind the Marlins who come in to town Tuesday night. The first series with the marlins was a disaster. But to put things in perspective at how early this season is, winning 2 out of 3 will put the Phillies at .500, but the Phillies would only pick up 1 game in the standings. Win 3 games? And the Phillies jump to first place a game and a half in front of the Marlins. (I won't discuss any thing else for fear of jinxing!)

Wolf Throws First Pitch on Sunday April 18

Team W L PCT. GB
Florida 8 4 .667 -
Atlanta 7 5 .583 2.0
New York 6 7 .462 2.0
Philadelphia 5 6 .455 2.5
Montreal 2 11 .154 6.5

Bowa Watch

Some people have raised the questions on Bowa putting Billy Wagner in 4 straight appearances. I wouldn't worry about that so much. Let's see how many appearances he makes this week! Let's hope a couple of these games are won handily.

Felske-esque Sub-Par Servicable Wild Card Bound Excellence

Black Cherry Wishniak -- Best Players

  • Billy Wagner -- Gets up to 101 MPH. 1 Win. 3 Saves. 5 Ks. 37 pitches.
  • Pat Burrell -- Last week he hit .429 with 2 HR and 6 RBI
  • Jim Thome -- Batted .500 last week (8 for 16) with 2 HR and 3 RBI.

Soft Pretzels -- Weak Players

  • Bobby Abreu -- Has hit 2 home runs, but his batting average is .111
  • Jimmy Rollins --Went 1 for 11 (.091) last week. Although on Sunday I did see him take a walk.

Scrapple -- Key Stats and Plays

  • 4 and 1 at HOME -- Phillies have 3 games against Marlins this week.
  • 11 Home Runs -- The team has 11 homers this week. Is the Cit a hitter's park?
  • Glanville Redemption -- Despite misplaying a ball that caused a tying run on Sunday, Glanville hits Game Winning/Game Ending Home Run to win the ball game.
