Week 6 -- Eagles lose to Dallas 23-21

Eagles dominate Cowboys, 41-14

Duce Staley rushes for 201 yards!

A 4:05 start generates some extra nerves for this Eagles fan. But there was no need for any nerves. Coach Andy Reid had this team prepared from the start. And Duce Staley put on one of the greatest offensive performances in Philadelphia Eagles history. What a way to start off a football season. Giants... Watch out!

Andy Reid Watch

Reid spend most of the pre-season showing that he had nothing up his sleeve. And he fooled us all. Opening up the first game of the season with an on-sides kick is a thing of genius. You can't do this very often. But the fact that you're willing to do it raises the bar for you. And Staley wasn't really a significant part of the game plan in the pre-season either and boy he certainly earned that rest. I'd like to see the Wide Receivers in the game a little more. If you notice Donovan had a little trouble connecting with them. If they want to get to the playoffs. They will need the receivers.

HOAGIES -- Stars of the Game

  1. RB - Duce Staley -- With only 42 yards on the ground, Staley picked up another 22 yards receiving. As he once again is the leader in yards gained for this terrible offense.
  2. CB - Troy Vincent-- a sack and an interception puts Vincent on the Plus Side of the game.

KRIMPETS -- Soft players of the Game.

  1. K - Norm Johnson -- Missed 2 field goals one from 50 yards and one from 26 when Johnson was not prepared to get on the field. I also blame Special Teams coach John Harbaugh, who should have had his kicker on the sideline prepared to run on the field instead of kicking the ball into the net. Horrible. That shouldn't happen in the NFL.
  2. Eagles Quarterbacks -- Combined the two combined for 122 yards passing. Not even good enough to even make last years team. Something has to be done now.
  3. Eagles Offensive Line -- This line must improve or someone might be killed. This is not a threat. It's a prediction. McNabb or Pederson better take a good life insurance policy, because they will be buried out there with such a pourous line. Someone has to help them out.

Keep an Eye on'em:

Doug Brzezinski -- The Right Guard might actually prove that this line won't be so bad..

Numerology-- Key Stats

  1. 9 Sacks. Reminds me of Randall's rookie year. The only reason not to play McNabb is only for his health. Warren Sapp had a huge day, in on 4 sacks himself.
  2. 1.7 -- The number of yards per pass. You have to love that West Coast Offense.
  3. 3 penalties for 45 yards. Well this team is more disciplined than last year.

Key Plays

  1. Mike Mamula's best hit of the day, unfortunately cost the Eagle's their starting Defensive End and sack leader from last year, Hugh Douglas, who went out with a sprain knee. Douglas already had a sack in the game. If this is a serious injury. This long year just got longer. You know I might be thinking Mamula was doing this on purpose to regain a starting spot? Hmmm....
  2. Turner makes catch just before the botched field goal without a chance to get to the sidelines to stop the clock. Not really his fault... He's just catching the ball. But the receivers have to know to get over there.
