We're Back! So is WOXY!!

In honor of the return of 97x WOXY, HammRadio is back with some more of our usual hi-jinks and commentary. Phillies Weekly will return as well. Other things to look forward to over the next couple of weeks: HammGuide of Citizens Bank Park, and a slew of HammReviews: Farenheit 9/11, Juliana Hatfield, Morrissey, Washington Square, and more.

Who is that singing?

A beautiful Sunday at the ball park was NOT marred by the Phillies loss. The day started out great, hit the Majestic store (found no new hats since Friday night), then went to the LeftField foul line to watch some batting practice. My buddy Wayne's 7 year old son, notices all the balls flying into the seats and remarks, "we need gloves!". Wayne responded, "I don't need a glove." Crack! A fly ball comes our way in foul territory, Wayne reaches out his left paw. SMACK! And the ball falls to the turf to a mild chorus of boos. Wayne successfully defended the pass, but failed to bring in the interception, robbing the 60 year old man behind him, who was dressed as Jim Thome with his own glove, what little joy he has left.

Then we started hearing the opening bars of the National Anthem. Instinctively, I removed my cap, a new powder blue one with retro P. We were all taken with the singing and we needed to find out who she was. All I could tell was that she was a blonde. But for now it was time to eat.

As we proceeded towards Ashburn Alley, his brother mocked Wayne for failing in front of his son. We decided to get some Bull's BBQ. It was around noon, still about an hour and a half before the game. The line wasn't too bad. We were trying to decide between BBQ Beef or Pork, Ribs or the giant Turkey Leg. BBQ Pork platter for me! Heading up to my seats, we are stopped by some Atlanta fans asking where we got that food. They seemed to be delirious. More mocking of Wayne continued as we devoured the food. The beans were fantastic, and Wayne officially announced (with his usual flourish, but lacking the calligraphy on parchment) that these were the greatest ribs ever.

Well, it's almost time for the national anthem. The Phanatic has just removed the Atlanta Bat boy's uniform shirt and drove it into the center field bushes, with the kid chasing the mascot a quarter of the way with a bat in hand. He would have been called out had he touched first base. While the kid runs out to CenterField to retrieve his shirt, the Phanatic heads in to the Atlanta dugout and tosses bats out onto the field. There is NO WAY Lasorda would have allowed that!!! The kid cleans up in time for the reverence of the anthem. And we are introduced to Erika Schiff. The Phillies Phanavision crew are EXPERTS of breastwork... er Camera work. They know to shoot from the Chest up. Erika was wearing a v-neck top that would have made J-Lo proud. Her ample bosom, got a HUGE cheer from the Philly faithful. Hey we don't boo everything! And despite Bill Conlin's opinion on Daily News Live on Monday, she did a great job! Biggest National Anthem cheers of the half season, without question!

Is there anyway we can make it a rule, that anyone who pronounces nuclear as "NUKE-Q-LER" should not hold national public office. For crying out loud, we keep out those who pluralize YOU with "YOUSE" and pronounce "water" as "Wooder"! I was watching Meet the Press this week and Senator Pat Roberts used President Bush's pronunciation of nuclear on more than one occasion. Perhaps it was in a memo. Speaking of elections, last week, John Kerry announces John Edwards as his running mate, the next day Kenneth Lay is in court pleading Not Guilty, while Bush refuses to answer questions about his relationship with Lay. Then Mr. Tom Ridge announces terrorist warnings. Doesn't raise the color-coded level, but warns that Al Qaeda wants to mess with our elections! Read here, on how the president doesn't want to "postpone" the election. I'll have more on this tomorrow.
